Letter of the Week - A

We started the Letter of the Week again as we slowly adjust to our new home...in a new state!
I am not as organized as I once was, but we are getting there.

Thankful that Confessions of a Homeschooler has an awesome program set
up to make planning so much easier.

 Plus worksheets from ABC Twiggles
ABC Twiggles isn't a free site.  It is $21.99 for a year. But, I love their Letter of the week program and it makes things so much easier for me when I am planning.

Letter of the Week - A (18-24 month)

Letter of the Week - A
(20 month plus)
I started the letter of the week activities with Snowflake who just turned 20 months.  She knows her colors and can name a handful of letters.  So, I thought it was a good time to start some basic letter work.
I filled a basket with things that start with the letter A.

Painting with Acorns Part 2

We used the same acorn template from Enchanted Learning
I trimmed a little paper off of each side so it fit perfectly into the oatmeal container.
I added different colors of paint
Drop in the acorn.
 Shake, shake, shake!

They came out looking like spin art!

Painting with Acorns Part 1

October is our Acorn, Apple and Pumpkin Month!

So today we painted with acorns.

Extra Crumbly Apple Crisp!

Extra Crumbly Apple

We bought a bag of apples at our local apple farm last week.  Of course, we had to make apple crisp.

I found a recipe from Martha Stewart

I followed the recipe from her page but made some changes as we went along!

*My changes to the Martha Stewart recipe are below in red*

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, (spooned and leveled)
  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold, cut into small cubes
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
  • 3 pounds apples, such as Empire, Gala, or Braeburn, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice - I used crystallized lemon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin spice
  • handful of raisins

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, salt, and 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
Cut butter into flour, using a pastry blender or two knives, until mixture is the texture of coarse meal.

Add oats and I added some extra cinnamon

and use your hands to toss and squeeze mixture until large, moist clumps form.

Transfer to freezer to chill while you prepare apples.

  2. In another large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar.

Transfer to a shallow 2-quart baking dish, and sprinkle with topping mixture.

Place baking dish on a rimmed baking sheet, and bake until golden and bubbling, 55 to 65 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes before serving.
We obviously got into it before I got the out of the oven picture :)
    It is awesome!
