I have been wanting to try this experiment with Junebug since we started our Letter of the Week activities in the fall. But, I wanted to wait until we got to V. At the time it seemed so far away. But, here we are, already in the middle of V week.
I have to admit it was super cool and both girls loved it. We only had enough vinegar to do the experiment twice.
Supplies needed:
plastic cup
large bowl
baking soda - 1/4 cup
red sugar sprinkles(what we used) or red food coloring - (optional-just to resemble lava)
vinegar - 1/2 cup
dish washing soup - I added a squirt to the vinegar. I read it helps push the combination upward.
*The first time we tried this experiment I used 1/4 cup of baking soda & 1/4 cup of vinegar with no dish soap. It didn't work. Well, it sort of worked but only half way up the cup. That is when we tried it again with 1/2 cup of vinegar and added the squirt of dish soap.*
Step 1 - Add the red sprinkles and 1/4 cup of baking soda to the cup and mix them together.
