Garden Sensory Tub

I didn't plan on making a garden themed sensory tub.  I saw one floating around on pintrest.  I even posted about it on the blog's Facebook page.
Then we decided to plant a vegetable garden and saw the disappointment when Junebug realized she could dig in the dirt once the seeds were planted.

I then decided I should make a garden sensory tub so she could plant seeds, water them, dig them up and plant all over again.

I used things for this bin we already had from our outside toy collection.  I did make the garden labels and seed packets.  See the below DIY instructions.

The seed packets were made from a regular envelope.

I simply cut it down the middle and glued the sides together.

 I trimmed the edges so both sides were at an angle. 

 I added the same picture from the garden labels I made.  

 Then I added regular beans to represent the seeds.  

I am sure these envelopes will need to be replaced once they are covered in water.

But, they were so easy to make.

 I filled the bin about a 1/4 full with Topsoil.  

I placed everything in the bin.

Including plastic vegetables and flowers to match the garden labels.

 She loved planting the flowers.  She requested more for the bin.  

I got the sunflowers from the Dollar Store.  

Vegetable or Fruit?

This is a simple activity we did as part of our letter of the Week - V.  

It is a great tie-in to the garden we planted earlier this week.  

I placed all the vegetables and fruits from their play kitchen in the shopping cart.

We went over each one and sorted them by vegetable or fruit.

Green Thumb Weekend - DIY Garden Labels

We spent part of Mother's Day planting our garden.

I made these easy DIY garden labels for each of the vegetables.

First I googled free clip art for each veggie.  I wanted a more "cartoony" type of picture for each of them.
I labeled them and printed them on cardstock.

Then I cut them out and glued them to another piece of cardstock for some color, laminated them and then hot glued each one to a craft stick.  Simple!

 We also planted green beans & onions.  Not sure why they didn't make the picture :)

 I am really looking forward to showing them the sproutlets in a week or so.  

Green Thumb Weekend - Day 1

It is our planting and gardening weekend.  I have big hopes that the girls will have more of a green thumb then me.  So, we are involving them in as much of our gardening and planting process as possible.

Sunday is our big day of setting up our garden.  Which I am really excited about and looking forward to. Today the girls helped their daddy plant some bulbs in the front of our house.  It will be exciting to show them the beautiful flowers once they start to sprout and bloom.
