DIY No Sew Super Hero Costume and Detective Costume (Tutorial)

It's time to dress up and play!  Thanks to Sprout,
(the 24-hour preschool channel parents and kids share together)
we received a special package to celebrate the new season of the The Chica Show.
My girls LOVE to dress up,
so we were excited when Sprout contacted us to participate in this activity.

These costumes are inexpensive and super easy to make.
In no time, your little one can be going on a whole new adventure.

Our package contained everything we needed to create two costumes!

Super Hero Capes! 

Make the collar:

1) fold the piece of felt in half (lengthwise)and cut in half

2) place the felt under your "cape" and hot glue to each other.

3) What it looks like glued

4)Lay the ribbon across the top of the fabric, 

then fold the felt over and hot glue in place. Be sure not to glue the ribbon

*Make sure the ribbon is long enough to tie*

1) For the mask I made a rough draft, cut it out then made adjustments against the girls faces.

2) Glue pieces of ribbon to each side long enough to tie around their heads.

Detective Costume

                                      

1) I folded the fabric in half and cut a hole in the top.  Be sure not to make the hole too big.

2) You can either use two baseball caps and glue one inside the other.  Or you can cut a piece of white felt the shape of the rim and glue it to the back of the hat.

3) Take the sponge off of the brush.  Then spray the canning jar lid and handle with black craft paint.  

Let dry.

4) Glue the two pieces together. 

                                                   

Is this not one of the easiest costumes to make????

Busy Bag- First Aid Kit

Felt First Aid Kit - Using a wipes container

My toddler loves her Dr.'s kit.  So for our long drive to Florida I thought she would love to have a First Aid kit in the car to play with.  Plus, it doesn't take up a lot of space!

As I created each piece I placed them in the container so I could gauge how they would fit.

The scissors, spray and ointment are made with stiff felt.

The band aids are regular felt.

 I used items in our medicine cabinet as my inspiration.

I added velcro to each piece so she can put them back in their spot. 

 I covered the outside of the case with white felt and a the traditional red cross. 

*Update - This has been very very popular with Junebug.  She has been using it all week while we are on our trip to work on her "animals".  When we get back I will add more band aids.

Quiet Time Book - Pages

No Sew - Quiet Book

I have been wanting to make a "Quiet Time" book for a long time.  We are driving to Orlando for vacation and I wanted to have it ready for our trip.  When I researched all the amazing books I quickly found out they take about 4 hours per page when sewn.  Since our trip was quickly approaching I knew I didn't have 4 hours per page.

So, I thought, why can't I just use my hot glue gun?  So, that is what I did.  I have to say, most of the pages didn't take that long to make.  Maybe 30-60 minutes per page.  The farm and city pages took the longest.  Probably closer to the 4 hours.  But, overall the book was prepared over a week and a half.

Although a no sew book doesn't look the same as one sewn.  I still think it turned out amazing and I am so happy with it!

Another tip about a no sew project.  You will probably have to mend things over time.  I've had to touch up the finger puppets here and there as they slowly come apart.

*My computer is uploading pictures really slowly this morning so not all the "production" pictures have uploaded.  I will get them up as soon as I can.

Supplies used:
Felt in various colors (whatever I had on hand)
stiff felt
hot glue gun
velcro
puffy paint
3 metal rings
paper fastener for clock

*Each page is glued onto a stiff piece of white felt.

Farm with finger puppets

 Each animal has a little pocket to sit in so they don't fall out of the book.

I used stiff felt for the barn.

These finger puppets I made a few months ago. So, their production time is probably a few hours. 

Desert and Clock pages.

 I love the desert page.  I might actually make another page so they are side by side.  

Junebug LOVES these rubber reptiles.  I got 4 packages on clearance from Walmart.  

So, we have a lot of them.  

Each one has a spot to hide in that I left untouched by the hot glue gun.

When we travel I will carry a few extra in case we lose any of them :) 

 I originally was going to use a button for the hands on the clock.  

But, I thought after a lot of turning the string might break.  So, I used a paper fastener instead.  

Mr. Potato Head page PLUS Zipper page. 

Every Quiet Book needs a zipper page, right? 

 Oopsey Daisy has a template you can use.

I made the mouse ears special for our trip!

I simply glued the zipper to the felt to form a pocket.

City Page

The city page isn't 100% finished yet.  I still have some open spots to fill.

This and the farm pages too the longest. 

The car fits in a little pocket next to the house. 

I did a rough sketch of how I wanted the streets first.

Then I started to add what buildings, etc. I wanted in the city.

I still have a couple more pages to upload.  But, my computer is uploading really slow.  So, I will post them later.  Including what the cover looks like.

Felt Board - Dress - Up Bear

My almost 15 month old has been recognizing where you put socks, shoes, hats, etc.  

So, I thought it would be fun to make her a felt board activity where she can play dress up and place the clothes in their appropriate places. With the help of her big sister, of course! 

Mama Smiles has templates available that you can use that makes creating this activity that much easier!

I love when I start to create something and then find a template for guidance.

 She just wanted to pile up all of the pieces.

But, it was fun going over each piece of clothing with her.
